Attempts to banish anonymity from the Internet won’t affect those savvy enough to bypass it, would cost billions, and would have only a negligible effect on security. What such attempts would do is affect the average user’s access to free speech, including those who use the Internet’s anonymity to survive: dissidents in Iran, China, and elsewhere.

But utopians everywhere take note. If there’s a lesson to be learned from the last two hundred years, it’s that while communication devices will invariably magnify us to the latest degree, they won’t fix us. We’ve got to fix ourselves. We’re the ultimate glitch. And if there’s no code or universal workaround for us so far, there’s always hope.

人類的頭腦充滿智慧，但是我們的腳卻自有它的主張。它不善于表達，但愛自由，而且嗅覺無比靈敏。更重要的是，它往往比我們高舉標語的手、能言善辯的嘴、荷爾蒙湧動的頭腦更誠實，因為它有足夠的謙卑去屈從于常識。

“被××”的，總是弱勢的一方。他們無法發出自己的聲音，甚至連定義權也只能任由掌握權力的另一方拿去。于是，心智正常的被說成精神病，被強迫的被說成自願……只有網民所加的一個“被”字，可以還給弱者一點點公道，道破他們在強權面前的委屈與無奈。可以想象，如果權力繼續不受監督、橫行無忌，如果公器異化成打壓弱者的利器，那麽還將會冒出更多的“被”字詞，來為這個時代命名。
