What such attempts would do is affect the average user’s access to free speech, including those who use the Internet’s anonymity to survive: dissidents in Iran, China, and elsewhere.
But utopians everywhere take note. If there’s a lesson to be learned from the last two hundred years, it’s that while communication devices will invariably magnify us to the latest degree, they won’t fix us.
